Ride Information

Rides are listed in alphabetical order, by ride name if provided, or else by organizer.

NOTE: "Start time" is when a ride is supposed to get underway.  You should arrive a few minutes beforehand—early enough to get signed up, set up, pumped up, and mounted up.  By start time you should be astride your bike, helmet on, ready to roll.  Showing up at the last minute, and expecting others to wait while you get ready, is inconsiderate, and might well get you left behind.

  • Dates & Times: See the above schedule.  All times are Eastern Daylight Time, unless otherwise noted.
  • Start: Rice Field (north lot)—9200 Dayton-Cincinnati Pike, Miamisburg, OH
  • Route: 22-25 mile loop through Germantown.  No scheduled stops.
  • Speed: 12-15 mph average (14-18 mph cruising on flats).  Maintaining the minimum average should get you back before sundown.
  • Terrain: flat to rolling; some long, gentle grades, one steep but short climb, one steep descent (on short route).
  • Traffic: mostly light and rural; light urban in Miamisburg and Germantown.
  • Conditions: no rain, temperature 60 - 95° F, wind speed 20 mi./hr. or less
  • Club Mileage: Rides from May through August are on the Dayton Cycling Club schedule, and earn club mileage points.  Rides earlier or later than this period are not on the club schedule, but can be ridden "just for fun" whenever weather permits.
  • Post-Ride Meal: Those who wish may join the group for an after-ride feed, usually at T.J. Chumps at the corner of Linden Av. and Main St., Miamisburg.  (The meal is an extra-cost item not included in your DCC membership!)

Again, please note that start times change in May, June, August, and September.  This is to allow ample time before sunset to complete the course at the minimum average speed.  (Though it rarely happens, a mechanical or traffic problem could delay us until after dark.  Therefore, riders are encouraged to bring head- and tail-lights, just in case.)

All rides should be considered tentative, since changeable weather or unforeseen schedule conflicts occasionally interfere.  I will send an advance email prior to any start-time change, and a final-hour email if the ride must be canceled or weather conditions are dicey.  Otherwise, assume the ride is "go" at the posted time.  Contact me if you wish to be placed on (or removed from) my email list.  You may also ask to be added to my cell-phone list, on the odd chance that you get separated from the group.  (I do not answer while riding, but will call back when stopped.)

Sunset Ride
(Middletown - Steve Joyce - Dayton Cycling Club)

THE SUNSET RIDE IS NO LONGER SCHEDULED!

Note: Due to lack of participation by DCC members for several years, I de-listed this ride as a DCC event after August 2015.
Those who wish to continue riding it are welcome to do so; it just will not be officially scheduled with DCC, and will not count toward club mileage.

In addition, I find I am weary of climbing the same hills and being chased by the same dogs every week, May through September, for 20 years, and so do not want the responsibility of showing up every week to lead it.  If someone else would like to lead this or a similar ride on a regularly scheduled basis, please feel free to do so.  I may join you from time to time.
